Service Description
“Where is everyone?” Could it be that all alien civilizations have failed to pass through the “Great Filter” because they destroyed themselves during their “technological adolescence”? And if so, are we next? Judging by the growing existential risks, such as global instability, nuclear weapons proliferation, and rapid climate change, the answer may be up to our children. Whether they succeed in finding the right one tomorrow will depend on how they learn to think today. Nuclear power can lead to clean energy or doomsday weapons, biotechnology can eradicate viruses or create new ones, and the internet can lead to collective intelligence or collective delusions. In this course, we will seek insights into the complexity of our interconnected world, the roots of the problems facing it, and the unintended consequences of our solutions to them. And with every small step of the way, we will learn to pause and reflect because, as Albert Einstein put it, “we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
